My kids love maps! They like to pretend they are going on amazing adventures. We first started with pirate treasure maps for Pirate. They loved them. I made the pirate maps on brown paper sacks. I just tore the map from the paper bag like it was old and torn. X-marks the treasure! To help protect the maps I covered them in contact paper so they last a little longer.
For the bigger maps I purchased some white freezer paper. Using a pencil I drew a outline of the path. Then I filled in the details along the way.
When I was done drawing the outline. I went over everything with a black sharpie.
Then colored everything in with crayons.
After I was completely done with the picture I covered it with clear contact paper on both sides. The kids can even roll it up like a map and stick a rubber band over it.
To help with ideas: Check your local library for Children's drawing books.
Be careful watch out for Jelly Fish Fields! You can even visit Spongebob. Lets go see if he's home.
You can take a detour through Bug Crossing, visit a fairy at her castle or even check out Frog Pond.
Instead of drawing fairies I used stickers but you could also use stamps and cut outs.
I made a spooktacular map to get to a Halloween Party.
Start by passing Mr. Bones and the Wise owl. Visit with Sam the Scarecrow before you enter the Spooky barn. You make your way up the path to pass Count Dracula and some bats or take a short cut through the Pumpkin Patch. Be careful Frankie is picking out his pumpkin! You can take a peek at the Haunted House and see if Ghostie was coming the party. Then you finally make it to the party where Gus the Goblin is already dancing the night away.
The possibilities are endless
You can make just about any adventure you want...
Help Santa find his Reindeer
Help the Easter Bunny find your basket
Find the treasure at Dead Man Cove
Help save the Princess from the dragon
Help the Ant get to the Picnic basket
Help Santa's Elf find the missing toys
I could go on and on but you get the idea.
